    Le Bonaparte

Le Bonaparte is one of the finest cafes of Saint-Germain des Prés. Its terrace offers breathtaking views of the abbey church. And above all it is quiet place in the center of this tiny village of Paris, which was the center of thought.

For the French, there is a big difference between Bonaparte and Napoleon. The first is a symbol of the Republic of courage and daring, the campaigns of Italy and Egypt, while the second evokes for many people, the tyranny and mass graves of the great battles.

For decades, the Bonaparte café has attracted the students of Fine Arts school. The decoration and interior architecture has been redesigned, but it keeps its soul. It has a unique attraction. When you go down to the restroom, take the lift an you will see on the walls scroll the pictures of Napoleon and Marie Louise.

In terms of culinary proposals, the Bonaparte is also out from the norm. Neither brasserie or restaurant, … it serves a “cuisine de bar” that puts the product at center of purpose. Michel Tafanel, the boss, found his way to Damascus, a few years ago.

The Organic has become obvious for this man who raises Salers cows in Normandy. Thus, the card is full of shades of green to mark the origin Organic of the product. He doesn’t want not to be trendy! But because he firmly believes.

Examples? Savour the organic salers beef tartare (above) served on a slice of toasted bread Moisan, with potatoes and parmesan (18 €). If you prefer sea products you can taste the thaï shrimps (25€), smoked salmon (25€), omelet made with organic eggs, or a chicken Caesar salad.

The boss does not forget his native Cantal. Example with the “Assiette de la Ferme” (plate of the Farm) (16 €) with its two slices of sausage served on a compote of apples and caramelized fruit. Perfect balance of texture and flavor. And especially with little fat. Same for the ham of Parlan in Auvergne. Finally, the muslin of strawberry gariguettes with its red fruit sauce can help to falter the most hardened souls.
