Bistros of Paris

Au Métro

If you are in the east of Paris not far “Bois de Vincennes” and are looking for a Parisian neighborhood brasserie with regulars and a good atmosphere that serves good French cuisine, Au Métro is the place to go. This large brasserie in front of the Daumesnil metro station is managed by Gilles Breuil, a Burgundian surrounded by an ultra-efficient and warm team.

Inside, the sound of the place sends the echo of a warm welcome and the presence of many loyal customers. The success of this brasserie is largely due to chef Thierry Colas who has worked for a long time in some of the great Parisian addresses. He uses classic recipes from the traditional French cuisine repertoire by adding a touch of fantasy that marks his dishes with deep flavors.

Like this pan-fried roast duck breast with cherries and purée surrounded by delicious meat juice (€22) or this perfectly cooked salmon steak, tomato juice and vegetable niçoise (€23). Without forgetting a tasty pâté en croute which remains one of the masterpieces of the French repertoire.

In short, it’s the ideal place to discover and taste all the great classics of bistro cuisine thanks to the weekly menu in particular which offers the same emblematic dish for every day of the week. There is veal head with gribiche sauce (€21) on Monday, or cod brandade on Friday. And on Sunday for families it’s roast chicken which brings together three generations of a family around the table.

Chef Thierry Colas also works with fish with talent. In addition to the haddock for its fish & chips (€19) or the monkfish in medallions which is a hit. For dessert, he can surprised you off with a choux au praline (€10), a sort of giant profiteroles…or a strawberry pavlova.

For the wines, the Burgundian origins of the boss explain the predominance of Burgundy wines on the wine list. A fairly exceptional selection of small and large winegrowers at all prices which will also allow you a wonderful trip to Burgundy without leaving Paris. But rest assured there is also a little Bordeaux and also Languedoc.

Main course + dessert formula €19.40
